Top 5 Things to do in Las Vegas (that aren’t drinking or gambling!)

Las Vegas has a reputation for being a crazy, booze-fueled party town. But there’s lots of other things to do in Las Vegas if you aren’t there just to party or gamble.

     1. See a Show

Las Vegas has hundreds of shows to see and there’s something for everyone, from live music, plays, illusionists, comedy, circus acts… even Zombies doing Burlesque! There is just so much to see that you could spend weeks just trying to see everything! You can find a full list of Las Vegas’ shows here.
I saw two shows when I was in Las Vegas – Rock of Ages and Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE. Both were just fantastic and they made me sad that I didn’t have time to see more!

If you are flexible about what show you see, you can visit a Tix4Tonight booth (there are 11 booths located across Las Vegas) and they offer greatly discounted tickets for shows on the same day.

     2. Visit Hotels on The Strip

There are hundreds of hotels in Vegas and some of the bigger hotels on the Strip offer some great attractions on their own. Some of these are free and others will cost you to visit. I unfortunately didn’t get to visit all of the hotels I wanted to but I did manage to see some hotel attractions, with my favourite being Sigfried & Roy’s Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat (at the Mirage). I also rode the rollercoaster at New York New York which was also a lot of fun.

There’s actually so much to see just in the hotels that I’ll do a separate post detailing these 🙂

    3. Shop!

Las Vegas is a great place to shop. There are so many options you can literally shop til you drop. I highly recommend visiting the Premium Outlets (there are two – one north of the strip and one south. They’re quite similar so I’d recommend seeing which one has more of the stores you’re interested in as it’s probably not worth going to both). There’s also the Forum Shops at Caesar’s Palace, the Miracle Mile shops at Planet Hollywood, the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian, and the Fashion Show mall, not to mention many, many more! Make sure to bring your credit card!

    4. Vist Fremont Street

Fremont Street is the epitome of ‘old Las Vegas’. It’s a great destination for drinking and gambling but it’s also a must-visit Vegas attraction particularly due to the free Light Show. The show runs every hour beginning at dusk and features great music. Fremont street just has a great atmosphere and I highly recommend everyone visit in while in Las Vegas.

If you’re feeling up to it, while visiting Fremont Street and downtown Las Vegas, you can ride a zipline across Fremont Street or visit the famous Heart-Attack Grill (the place that holds the Guinness World Record for the highest-calorie burger)… I did not visit!

    5. Helicopter Flight to the Grand Canyon

Doing a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon was by far the highlight of my time in Las Vegas – and probably one of my most memorable travel moments. There are many companies that offer these tours, but the one I went with was Papillon – I did their Grand Celebration tour, which included hotel pick up and transfer to the airport at Boulder City, an amazing flight over the Hoover Dam and through the Canyon, and a landing at the bottom of the Canyon to enjoy an included Champagne Picnic lunch. While it is a pricey tour, it’s arguably the most amazing thing you can do while in Vegas.
